The year is almost up and we’re off for a Christmas break and our summer holidays (It’s summer here in NZ).
It has been a busy year for us – launching LogoSauce, learning Rails, moving offices and the rest.
Of course we wouldn’t be where we are today without the support of you, our readers, users, customers, suppliers, supporters, friends and family. So to you all – a big thank you for your support and we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
We’re out of the office Friday 22nd until January 8th – but I’ll be on call and check for messages during that time.

Why do some logos and profiles have higher scores – when there are profiles and designs that are obviously better.
For example this logo has had a low vote but lots of views and is therefore in the Top 6. It shouldn’t really be there.
Essentially most scores have a large Views component. More time spent on key pages has a big impact on your overall score .
Consequently early adopters have had a lot of views and therefore higher scores. Read more…
Amazing what a simple mention in someone elses site can do to your web traffic.
This morning we arrived at the office to see a whole bunch of new logos published and a bunch of new profiles. Always a pleasant experience.
When we checked our Google Analytics we can see a big spike (well big for us anyway) in traffic and page views. What-do-ya-know a new referring site has popped out of the woodwork. 32% of yesterdays traffic was from a site called Webcreme.
Webcreme is a site that shows other website designs as a source of inspiration featured Logosauce on it’s home page yesterday. Read more…
Today we’ve just released a change to the LogoSauce scoring system (see this previous post )
Now a View is worth 0.25 points rather than 0.5pts. This change is so that rank is decided more by Votes than views. Even with the change Views still account for most of the points. So in most cases rank has not changed. Read more…
A couple of bug fixes also out the door today.
Here we go – 999 logos and counting. I just checked the site and the 999th logo has been posted by OcularInk (a new user), a logo entered into the Rinke Design competition (with 37 entries at time of writing). Read more…
Since we blogged about reaching 999 logos 13 days ago – we’ve seen a big surge in logos (now 1309). That’s about 23 per day.
A lot of this activity has come about due to Competitions which have also jumped (currently 11 active competitions). Read more…

A bunch of changes tonight folks.
We’ve made updates to Home Page, Top 6 page, commenting, competitions and more.
Having a look at the new Google Analytics for LogoSauce. (Very impressed with the new Analytics tools from Google).
What’s interesting and pleasing is the global map view of visitors to the site. The view below shows visitors by location (Jan to May visits).
UK and NZ look like hot spots otherwise there is plenty of action in Europe, North America, South America and Asia. Even from Africa. Read more…

LogoSauce continues to grow.
Now past 2000 logos and 870 profiles (after deleting a couple of rogues)
We were at 999 logos a month ago. So that’s about 33 new logos per day. It’ll be interesting to see how this changes – whether we can win more freinds and see the rate climb. Read more…

We’re gonna make another small but significant change to Competitions – we hope for the better.
First for some background. We’ve had some complaints from designers about plagiarism. Some of you have mentioned various solutions and we’ve been asked advice about who is right in a few cases.

We’ve just changed the graphics server and installed a clustering server to help with performance and memory leaks we have been experiencing with RMagic ( a Ruby graphics server).

Here in Auckland this week th Auckland City Council has been lambasted in the press for spending $25k to $1m on a new logo. (design, registration and rebranding of stationery, buildings etc).

Commentators and the public can’t understand how their council can waste so much, nor why their rates should be wasted on a new logo when the existing one was perfectly fine in a period when annual rates increases have been in the order of 10%. Read more…
