The Library Association of the City University of New York is looking for two versions of a new logo. These new designs will be used on our web site, on social networking venues, as well as on stationery and printed publications.
We are a non-profit professional organization that serves professional development needs of library faculty and staff at the City University of New York. Our mission from the organization’s constitution reads: The Association is organized exclusively for charitable, scientific, literary, and educational purposes, including, without limitation, the encouragement of cooperation among the libraries of the City University of New York, the stimulation of the professional growth of the librarians on their respective staffs, and the promotion of the professional interests of the members of the association.
We are open to logo designs that reflect what our organization is about and what we do, and we welcome ideas that are radically different from our existing logos. Words/Ideas to keep in mind are collaboration, outreach, professional growth/career building, networking, and academia.
Our members have identified the collaboration across campuses as a prominent factor in our identity and wish to have the logo express this quality. We seek for a visual expression of mottos such as, “Many libraries, one University,” “Many libraries, one goal” or “CUNY Libraries working together” in our logo. The values LACUNY represents are: professionalism and strength, means of enhancing skills and knowledge, but also friendliness, warmth, and accessibility, the ability to work together, which makes us unique among departments in CUNY.
Consider creating logos composed entirely of text (LACUNY). Images are a possibility, both abstract design and figurative art. Please, if books are used, make it an inventive use that suggests 21st century library identities, which also include online/dynamic sources.
We are looking for two similar and related versions of the logo: one that can be used as a web banner/letterhead, one that can be used as an icon and profile image. The designs should be clean and modern with legible text. The large logo should include our full name: The Library Association of the City University of New York. The smaller square logo should include the acronym LACUNY. Both must be scalable to accommodate the wide variety of venues in which we will be using them.
The set of designs that are selected by the LACUNY Executive Council will be awarded an honorarium of $200. We look forward to seeing your designs and please accept our thanks in advance of your submissions. Please feel free to post your comments and questions, and we will answer as soon as we can.
See Logosauce for the rules and regulations of the contest.

All logos need to work for use in printing/web designing on white background. We welcome the incorporation of color. The large logo should have an aspect ratio of a standard full banner (468×60); the smaller logo should be a square. All files will need to be in vector ai or layered psd formats, as well as jpg or pdf. We will also need to know the fonts used so we can match other design elements.
