Competitions
Tubular Synergy Group
Profile: Barrett Alley
Company: Roundup Digital
Opens: 07 February 2008
Closes: 14 February 2008
Prize value: US$200.00
Details:
Need a logo for Tubular Synergy Group – a steel pipe manufacturer for the oil and gas industry. The logo will appear on the typical website, letterhead and business cards, as well as be embossed on steel pipe – so no super-fine lines or ornate detail.
The company is based in Dallas, Texas, America, therefore should contain a subtle Texas element (but nothing loud or overpowering.) Some ideas include:
- Texas longhorn (cow)
- A cattle brand
- Barbed wire
- Texas blue-bonnet (flower)
- The shape of the state of Texas
- Or your own creative idea
- NO STARS (Due to an agreement with a competitor, Tubular Synergy Group cannot use the 5-point star.)
Tubular Synergy Group’s clients will international – China, Japan, Saudi, Mexico, etc. so keep in mind that the logo needs to be relatively simple and well-understood cross-culturally.
Some other notes – logo should look:
- Professional
- Not overly-graphic or stylized
- Font not too stylized
Thanks!

It would be fun if this one year old contest would suddenly be concluded… :)
what happened with the rule #7: “You MUST CHOOSE A WINNER at the end of the competition. You have 14 days after the end of the competition to select a winner. Failure to select a winner after 14 days will result in the forfeiture of your prize money and it will be awarded at the discretion of Logosauce. You may not award prize money to yourself, a relative, employee, related company or related person. In some circumstances you may ask that your competition is extended at the discretion of Logosauce administrators.”
this is stupid. just take all these dead-ass comps down so we don’t have to see them anymore. it just makes me mad every day i still see it sitting here…
Any update? None of these 107 entries were suitable?
i’ve previously talked to the comp holder via email and he said he was waiting on his client to choose. that was a while back though. not sure what the hold up is.
I’ve e-mailed Tubular Synergy Group directly – could be that Roundup Digital is the weak link here…
Struve: Hmmm… that doesn’t sound too encouraging. What a pity. :(
Thanks for trying, anyway! :)
i tried to send what i just posted below to the comp holder on 5/18/08 and the email was rejected and a message came up to contact logosauce.
I hope it isn’t yet another dead competition. :(
No update at all?
I went on “Roundup Digital”‘s website and used the “Contact us” feature to ask this comp holder if he’s ever going to choose a winner here. (And I didn’t even enter this one!). He replied right away and said the client is being very slow to select a winner. I asked him to update the comments here so we all know this comp hasn’t just been abandoned.
whats going on? i think this competition is a joke!
Hows that company meeting going???? any decisions?
I’ve almost forgot this one! How is it going? Any winner?
any update? it’s been two weeks. thanks.
Thanks guys – the company is still trying to decide which logo to select. I promise I will notify you as soon as a decision is made. Thanks for your patience.

I agree with tb1alexc, no sense in junking up this area of the contest. I’m just as at fault as the rest of you, if not more. That is why i removed my comments. @Digger, I reiterate my past recommendations of having some type of forum area for this site.
Wow, whats going on here? I personally feel sorry for the client who has all this going on in his contest. You’re also giving yourselves bad names by arguing / bitching here, where everyone can see… don’t; sort it via e-mail or something…
Bravo Kariboo! That’s EXACTLY what I am trying to say! The client gave specific instructions and guidelines. It is only normal for people to have “similar” designs. Remember designers are artists….artists are passionate individuals….making them “competitive”. Let’s not forget this is a CONTEST. It’s pretty lame that some people actually check if a concept is already taken before they submit their entry. What the heck is that all about? BUCK UP PEOPLE! What if you and that other designer were working on the same concept…and you spent a good time working on yours. Are you trying to tell me you are willing to give that up (after all that work) just because someone did a similar design? I don’t know about you, but sure would NOT GIVE UP MY WORK. It’s a contest!!!!!
Like I said earlier- SOME GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE!!!!
Courtesy and originality go hand in hand here. Those who have had ideas ‘stolen/amended/l’ certainly feel it more. But Logosauce is an open forum – and these comments must be here – so that we can all learn how this community should work. If you confine it to private emails, then we, and the client, miss out on an important part of the design process. The conflict of ideas is productive. On the other hand, if you really are viewing previous entries and re-making them in your own style then your are not a creative person. And chances are you will not win the $250 prize.
Also, if you make a comment – then delete it – that is a retraction in my book.
Much of this could be dealt with in private messages/e-mails, guys…
Actually, he always acts like that. The “T – as Longhorn head”concept is so simple, and anyone can think about that.
Fellas, fellas…common now! Seriously…WHO CARES who came up with the concept first! Great minds think alike! We can all have the same concept in mind…it’s all about execution of the concept. So what if people submit the same concept! As long as it is rendered in a unique way…IT’S ALL FAIR! It’s got NOTHING to do with courtesy….let’s remember this is a CONTEST. Bottom line- it’s all up to the contest owner to decide.
On the font, try to keep it bold and masculine – something blocked or with serifs. (And try to stay away from Arial, Times New Roman, etc.) Thanks!
Try keeping things black and white. I think this will help steer the designs in a more minimalist direction. Thanks.

my logo for this competition will be included in an upcoming LogoLounge book. it’s a shame it won’t be in actual use. I was hoping it would have been chosen as the winner for this competition.
