Details:
Radius9 is a software development company, with a specialization in games, entertainment, and multimedia software. The company itself has been around for 8 years or so, but I have never done much with my webpage or brand. I am looking to create a strong logo for the company that can be used for the website, the business cards, as well as for a title screen in the games & software we develop.
The name doesn’t have a whole lot meaning behind it other than it sounds somewhat high-tech, without specifically implying any particular line of work. My interests and abilities are varied, they run the gamut, and with previous business I had started, the names tended to be linked to the work I was doing, which would invariable change.
The purpose behind the site will be to promote the development services that the company provides, but I am not looking for something overly corporate. In the end, we primarily develop games and entertainment software, so an edgy logo that stands out is what I am looking for. I prefer futuristic, harder-edge styles over organic softer ones.
This logo will be used in both electronic form as well as print. Feel free to use any colors, but I personally think the light blue colors/shades are a little overdone with technology companies and the web. I want a logo that can be used independently of the name, although incorporating an R or 9 in the logo is fine. The logo should stand independent of the text, so I would like 2 variations, one with the text “Radius9” and one without. I will need it vector based, with layers, to be used for print. The logo may be used against a light or a dark background.

Publik: Of the ones you did, I like both the submissions from April 7th (the red one and the yellow logos). On the yellow logo, I like the left-most variation the most. On the logos you did on the 9th, the best were the 2 on the right, and the very left-most logo.
I shall get right on that when i get my comp back next week. The color variations u requested that is. P.S. Please post which one u like, there were many different variations.
Comments on latest, from oldest to newest again. My favorites are:
Radius9 by yourworstnightmare I like the retro feel of the top left one. Its not the strongest out of the bunch I have seen, but there’s something I like about the old school styling of the top left one.
Radius9 02 by Putschman Although it uses blue, I like the futuristic feel of this one. The text seems a little generic, but I like the logo. Not quite a 9, but has that 9 feel.
Radius 9 by Publik Konsumption (dated 07 April 08) This one also has that retro feel that I like. I still like the other one Publik did more, but this one is very cool too. The reds in it (the shading and the regular) are little close to each other in color, so the whole image seems a bit too monotone to me, but its a good design.
orngek9 by Kariboo I like this one a lot. Good choice of colors, and the logo is very cool. I like how it works inversed too, it would work well on a variety of backgrounds.
r9 v2.0 by Edie This one is very cool. Its got 3D in it, but still clean and simple. Looks very futuristic, and I like the color choice. It seems like the logo would work well on both dark and light backgrounds, and it would animate easily as well.
radius9 by omixam This one to me has a nice mix of retro with a futuristic feel, and doesn’t feel too technology either. It seems like it could be a company that makes hard goods as well. I don’t think it works as well with just the silhouette, but the other 2, with the perspective on the boxes look good.
radius9 by Publik Konsumption (dated 09 April 2008) I like this one. It is a very cool logo, and I like the shading variations. I like this one more than the one from the 7th. It has strong animation potential as well. I’m not too sure about the pale green on this one, I’d like to see some color variations (orange maybe?)
Radius9 #2 by Snoggydawg I don’t do anything with chemicals or nuclear energy, but I like the logo. It certainly stands out, partially because its so different from what I actually do. I actually have another deal I’m doing that this may fit well for, so I may contact you about that.
Radius9_0.6 by Logoist I like this one too. Its definitely filled in more from the previous submission (the one I reviewed last post). The colors are good. The arc around the 9 seems a little lopsided to me, not sure if its an optical illusion or if its not symmetrical. I do like it against both backgrounds however.
Radius9 ver 7 by RetroMetro/Steve I like the feel of this one, and the color is good. The 9 reminds me a bit too much of snail shell though, and I’m not sure about the outline or highlights around the edge.
There are quite a few really good ones here, and I really appreciate the effort you guys are putting in. Stealing a queue from Mr. AnalogX, I’m going to pick a second and a third place winner for $200 and $100, respectively. The logos may not end up on my business cards, but I may use them as icons or as logos on different projects that I work on, depending on the feel of the product.
Ok, sorry about the long delay. Here’s my comments on them, these are in order from oldest to newest, and their order does not reflect my feelings about them. My favorites out of the list are as follows:
Rad92k1 by Kariboo: I like the logo on this one. I saw Rad92k2, and even though the logo on this one is the same, I like how it looks with this image a lot better. It straddles the line between tech and non-tech well. From what you’ll see on the others that I like, I normally lean towards things more “techy”. The only thing is I’m not too big on the purple/bluish coloring, somehow it seems a bit feminine.
RADIUS9_0.1 by Logoist I like the coloring on this one, and I like the lines coming off the 9. Its definitely got a good feel and style, but there seems to be something missing from the logo itself.
Radius9 by Mercury I like this one quite a bit. Its got a similar style to the logo from Radius9_0.1, but overall it seems more complete. The coloring is a good mix, its got blue (which normally I find a bit overused) but it mixes it up with the orange. Somehow it has a bit of a retro feel too, which I like. I like the way it stands out against the black a lot.
r9k2 by Kariboo I agree with the comment on this, it does look very Atari. I like it, but there isn’t a logo that I can use that stands out separate from the text (other than just the plain 9).
Radius9_0.2 and Radius9_0.5 by Logoist I like the overall style of these logos (specifically, the curves and thin lines), but still seem a bit too sparse. Neither of these can be separate from the text either, which is important to me.
Radius9_1 by Conrad This one is similar to me with the first one I commented on, it straddles the tech/non-tech line very well. The logo definitely is a 9 as well, which is cool. I like the green/orange combination for coloring, its not as plain as a single color, but doesn’t use blue.
Radius9 ver1. by RetroMetro/Steve I like the logo design, but there is way too much blue in this one.
r9 v1.0 by Edie I like this one a lot, even with the blue. The logo is simple, so I can use it in a number of different formats easily (color separated print, video, etc.) It has a strong technology feel to it. I would like to see a version on both a white and a black solid background.
radius9 by Mykal I like logo, it reminds me of a power button. The colors are good too.
r9 by Moon. This one is very neat, I like the thought you put into the symbol. Its also one that translates into 3D very well, so I can animate it in a video game. It has a good retro feel to it, without looking dated. I like the choice of colors, and the trick with the negative space is neat.
Radius9 by Publik Konsumption I like this one quite a bit as well. Its similar to moon’s logo as far as feel. It seems like it would animate well. I specifically like the one on the right the most, the r and the 9 aren’t as clear on the other 2. It is ironic that that it has cubes instead of circles, but still very neat.
Radius9 by Lady (the first one) I’m not sure about the logo on this one, but I like how it looks like something from an old monitor. The radius9 text definitely stuck out to me, so I thought it was worth a mention. Even though its not the right logo as it stands out, I did like the style enough that it stood out fairly strongly.
Radius9 by Lady (the second one) I like the logo on this one, although I’m not a huge fan of the color. The logo is neat, but I can imagine it being difficult to reproduce in a lower resolution, which would pose difficulties for me.
Radius9 1.0 by Nexqunyx I like this logo too, the design of the saw is very cool, although it leans a bit too much on the side of evil. It looks like the logo would be used for cutting off limbs. It would be cool to see without the metallic surface (and might be a bit less menacing), and I’d like to see a different choice of colors as well, light blue certainly isn’t my favorite.

K9Twist by Kariboo – I like this logo. I wish it had the 9 a bit stronger in it, but still, a very nice, distinctive logo with good colors.
r9 v2.0 by Ian_G – I like the clean lines in this logo, and I like how it has both the r and 9 in the logo, but without being too blatant about it. Good choice of colors as well.
r9 by r5ex – This logo is quite a bit different from the others that I’ve liked, much more cartoonish, but it still has a good feel to it. I’m not too hot on the blue, but a nice logo nonetheless.
Radius9 by EmLiam – I’m not a huge fan of the font, but the logo is nice. I like the hidden and r and the 9 in this one as well.
