SOKU stands for ”Syrisk Ortodoxa Kyrkans Ungdomsförbund”, which means ”The Syrian Orthodox Church Youth Association”. Thus we are the church’s youth in Sweden, and have been since 1996. As a church youth association, our primary objectives is to organize different activities for youth, such as Bible Contests, Church Choir Festivals, christian youth and kid camps, biblical lectures etc. Our activities, work and organization are based in the following direction: church, youth, christianity, spirituality. See more information on our website www.soku.org (in swedish). Since a couple of years, we have had a logo with our name and abbreviation and our dear and beloved cross. This logo has been the main identification sign for our organization.
We are now seeking a new design – a new logo – that will represent us. What is really important with the logo, is that it itself will be the centre and base of every design aspect for our organization. Thus, we will design our new homepage according to the new logo, and also other digital and printing work fields.
We want to build our identity around this logo and incorporate it into our website and marketing materials.
We are the church youth. We want the new logo to be youthful, fresh, modern, energetic, have vitality and harmony. Simply – the logo should speak for itself.
The main objective for the competition is the logo, but we also want a design for business cards, letterheads, bookmarks, stickers and other print and digital work fields.
We seek a logo that will talk for itself, without a lot of text. As noticed, our organization’s name is quite long, and limits the use of the present logo.
The new logo should be more of a complete symbol, rather than a lonely symbol and our name.
Also feel free to try ways of combining our web adress soku.org in the logo, since our new homepage will be designed according to the new logo.
If you have alternate visions for the logo, please feel free to submit it.
Requirements:
- We want all included files, such as fonts, raw-material files (.psd, .indd, .ai etc).
- All rights reserved for all material to our association
- Needs also to be vector based
- Good width-height proportions, to be a compact logo
- Reguarding colours, our main wish/focus is our red colour (RGB #C8161D / CMYK 0%,100%,100%,18%), but it is also ok to include white and black (thus it’s ok to mix all three colours, but the red has to stand out). We are also open to other colour proposals, but we prefer our red.
- Our cross was specially designed for us and we love it and we have used it for a long time. Either this cross has to be used or a new cross has to be designed. Note that it’s an orthodox cross with three edges, however we are open for new crosses as well!
- Main textual focus in the logo is the abbreviation of four letters ”SOKU” and has to be included in the logo. Normally it has to be capital letters, but feel free to give ideas with small letters as well.
- Textual option is also to, instead of using only the four letters SOKU, use SOKU.org
- The coloured logo should also be available in black / white / white on black background and black on white background. Example: http://www.logosauce.com/logos/70688
It is ok to experiment and combine with the cross, text etc. And we are also open for usage of other christian symbols, e.g: bible/book, church, cross, heart, dove, etc.

Hello all! Now the final hours are getting close. We want you all to do your best and give us your final contributions, your finest improvements and the ideal logo for us. A couple of things:
- use a nice font (see comments in your own contributions), but let the font be something unique and sofisticated and suiting for our kind of organization.
- use a nice but proper colour: having seen different types, we are now determined that we want it red. Red like something we have it now (see our homepage) or something that is close to it. Sorry to say this – not to point anyone out or to ruin for someone else, but just for an example: Santesa has hit the right colour (and a couple of others also, for that matter), but we just want you to understand what kind of colour. ADJUST YOUR FINAL CONTRIBUTIONS to this!!
- Try making the logo complete and compact. We have seen nice contributions, but the text (name) is by itself and the cross/symbol by itself. We prefer that the logo is like one single unit where everything is fit inside this “unit”, if possible. Hence the comment about the “shield” earlier.
- And about that – the “shield”: let it be a complete shield where the shield makes the logo unit, or something like that. See the following link to understand: http://svenskfotboll.se/ImageVault/Images/id_10496/ImageVaultHandler.aspx Where the shield has a cross inside it, but also other details and text, making it a complete logo unit, enclosed with the border. Something like that would be nice. Also for last minute inspiration with shield: www.ihm.se the logo with the horse.
FINALLY: give us your best shot at it. We have seen some really pretty concepts and very nice designs and now its getting close, and maybe your final improvement, your final detail, your final touch can give just YOU the advance in it!!! Keep it up! =)
Hello dear all! If i could ask anyone who wants and have time to do something that also looks like a kind of shield/armor, like the ferrari logo, something like that… Try to embed the cross somehow in it and also dont forget our name.
It’s getting close now!!! For you dedicated and hard working, giving us good contributions – well done and keep it up!!! But now it’s time to step it up a bit and to make sure you stand out!

Hello all! Just like Hippo mentions, this is a logo competition and that is what we are looking for. We want a complete and compact logo, so please: feel free to unleash your inspiration and creativity and feel also free to use the material we have put up. Dont miss that we have an .EPS of our present logo, and you may use our present cross in various designs. You can use our cross as a starting point and create something around it – make something new out if it!
Also try to make the logo compact where the cross/symbol is embeded within the text, something like that. The cross/symbol and text should preferably be one unit.
i agree with you hippo. i think in the desparation to win the contest they designers are doing too much without the demand or request from CH.

The comp is for a logo design NOT everything the client has mentioned it would be used for, the winner of the comp then would have more paying work from their win but with all these why would they need anymore done! Its happening more and more the designer does full stationary sets for a logo design which gives them the edge over just a logo…. AS someone has mentioned a while back lets get back to basics and stop under cutting ourselves!!! ITS A LOGO DESIGN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
