The purpose of Jembatan International (JI) is to facilitate study abroad experiences to smaller universities and their students. They provide the infrastructure for a program that includes volunteer work, classes, housing, sight-seeing, a local facilitator and of course exposure to a new culture and people. Their goal is to build bridges of understanding and friendship between different world cultures. The word “Jembatan” itself is Indonesian and means “bridge” and this was the basis for their new identity which principally shows the connections that can be possible when one broadens the mental, social, and geographic horizons of students.
